Mr. Thombs' Bio:
Hello! My name is Mr. Thombs and I am the middle school science teacher at Clear Creek Middle School. I teach both 7th and 8th-grade science along with several elective courses: Environmental Science and Outdoor Education. I enjoy all of the sciences and sharing that passion with students. I am originally from Maine and graduated from Bates College with a degree in environmental science, and am currently working on my master's degree. I have taught for four years now, three of which were at the high school level. I am excited to be a middle school science teacher!
7th Grade: In 7th-grade students focus primarily on the life sciences and have a broad, but comprehensive, introduction to the biological sciences. Students work on cellular biology, microbiology, the 11 major body systems and how they function, biochemistry, ecology, and an introduction to environmental science.
8th Grade: In 8th-grade students focus on the physical sciences. This includes chemistry, atmospheric science, physics, and astronomy.
All students do weekly assignments that allow them to engage with ongoing scientific discoveries and news articles.
In addition to teaching, I am also a ski coach for the high school ski program. I was a competitive varsity skier in high school and skied division one later in college. I love skiing and ski coaching! I have coached for four years, and have coached two state championship programs (in Maine).
When I am not teaching or coaching, you can find me fly fishing, bird hunting, camping, hiking, running, skiing (both nordic and telemark), etc! Basically, if it gets me outdoors I am happy! I also love reading and cooking, and enjoy all things MAINE!
I look forward to having you in my class or working with you on the trails!
Mr. (Coach) Thombs
